Downtown Radio

by Luis R. Cancel

The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center is proud to announce its collaboration with East Village Radio, a Web-based broadcaster.

Every Monday, starting on September 11, 2006 from Noon to 2:00 PM tune your computer and iPod to www.eastvillageradio.com to listen to Loisaida Cultural Wire with Luis Cancel.

Join the Director of the CSV Cultural Center as he interviews visual and performing artists about current and upcoming exhibitions and performances. The CSV Cultural Center, located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan (Loisaida in Spanglish) is the largest incubator of the arts in NYC, housing 53 visual artists in working studios and 13 performing arts groups. Additionally, the Center's four theaters host performances from many other dance groups, theater companies and musicians, providing the Loisaida Cultural Wire radio program with a wide array of interesting guests and musical formats.

Segments will include an upcoming cultural events calendar for CSV and other Loisaida cultural venues; musical selections and commentary on NYC cultural policies and its effects on creative individuals.

The Monday Sept. 11th program includes segment interviews with:

  • Edy Ferguson, a visual artist and musician
  • Gabriel Romance, one of the featured singers appearing on Tuesday Sept. 12, 2006 in the "Singers in September" vocalists program at CSV Cultural Center 8:00 PM
  • Downtown Movement & Dance with Regina Miranda, a weekly segment on the downtown contemporary dance scene.

Join us every week for the live broadcast or surf to the Web site (www.eastvillageradio.com) and download the Podcast at any time -- all programs will be archived.
