A mom of two from Brooklyn was visiting the Toys R Us store on 42nd Street in Times Square this past week. Chelsi Meyerson was with her 3 year old daughter and 7 month old infant son. Her baby was hungry, so while her daughter played nearby - she found a quiet spot and began nursing her baby. She was approached by several salespeople who told her she had to move to a room in the basement and they also called security. By the time security arrived she had finished feeding her baby. She felt humiliated and harassed. Under NY State law a woman has the right to breastfeed in whatever place she herself is allowed to be.
Local breastfeeding supporters are organizing a "nurse in" outside the 42nd Street Toys R Us on Thursday, September 21, at 10:30 AM. If you are a supporter of breastfeeding - even if you are not currently nursing a baby - come down and show your support.
