Macy CEO Terry Lundgren will be at the parade

Yes, tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 15, as part of their first-ever "Give Back Day," some 400 Macy’s volunteers will march - around noon time - with a 50-piece all-girl band and a star balloon from the corner of Montgomery and Grand to the Abrons Center. It will be a 2-block parade to remember! Then watch the Macy big shots, along with Henry Street’s Executive Director Verona Middleton-Jeter, on the steps of Abrons. Great fun will be had by all!

Some 3,000 Macy's volunteers will be doing nice stuff for folks across the nation, in commemoration of the launch of the Macy's name nationwide this month. The company's "Partners in Time" employee volunteers have created the first "Give Back Day" national community service projects, September 13 - 23. Give Back Day puts a personal face on Macy's tradition of community involvement, thanking new cities for welcoming Macy's and reaffirming community support in the cities newly served by Macy's as well as in cities the company has always called home. More than 3,000 volunteers will contribute their time for Give Back Day, including Federated and Macy's senior executives.

In New York City on Sept. 15, Federated Chairman, President and CEO Terry Lundgren joins volunteers from Macy's East, Macy's Merchandising Group, Macy's Home Store, and macys.com to benefit the Henry Street Settlement neighborhood services organization with 14 projects, created in partnership with United Way of New York City.

Volunteers will create a reading room, conduct interview training, paint common areas and landscape Martin Luther King Jr. Community Park, among other projects. In addition, Federated Logistics & Operations volunteers will work with the New Jersey Community Food Bank, making and serving lunch, plus cleaning and painting the facility.

Macy's and Federated volunteers have given more than 1.2 million hours of service nationwide since Partners in Time was founded in 1989, valued at nearly $20 million to charitable organizations. In 2005, 54,000 volunteers created 2,520 service projects throughout the country. Federated is a member of the Points of Light Foundation, supporting its efforts to engage more companies and more volunteers in service to America. By visiting www.1-800-VOLUNTEER.org individuals can be connected to volunteer opportunities in their communities. Federated was honored in 2005 to receive the Points of Light Foundation "Award for Excellence in Workplace Volunteerism" for its Partners in Time program. Federated, with corporate offices in Cincinnati and New York, is one of the nation's premier retailers, with fiscal 2006 sales expected to be more than $27 billion. Federated operates more than 850 department stores in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico under the names of Macy's and Bloomingdale's. The company also operates macys.com and Bloomingdale's By Mail.
