Ilaid Irizzary, 80, a resident of East River Building 4, was hit at Around 11 AM today by a shuttle van on Grand Street, near Lewis. The shuttle was coming down Lewis Street, making a left onto Grand and struck her as she was crossing the street to southern sidewalk.

"I heard people screaming and the impact," says Teresa Falcon of LoHo Realty, which is directly across the street. "The driver got out and didn't seem concerned at all. Dr. Rebecca Fin, also a local resident, performed CPR on Irizzary until the EMS ambulance arrived."

According to Falcon, the shuttle van driver walked away from the scene. Information about hiom was given to the 7th Precinct. This area has seen several serious accidents involving shuttle vans - most recently a shuttle van going at 70 MPH totalled a car at the corner of Grand and East Broadway in December 2005.

Update, 9/27/06: The victim's brother says that she lapsed into a coma last night and passed away. She will be cremated and then sent to Puerto Rico.
