Girl-Molest Fiend Caged (NY Post, 9/29/09)
An elderly former screenwriter was sentenced to five years in prison yesterday for sexually violating a 5-year-old girl in her Lower East Side bedroom last year as her transsexual dad, who set up the tryst, sat, in drag, watching.

"Ariel Berlin, you are a sick, pathetic, disgusting old man," the girl's aunt said to the 73-year-old monster. "I hope you die - and rot in jail. And also in hell."

Berlin, who lived on West 85th Street and whose lawyer said he was an uncredited screenwriter for "On the Waterfront," had met the dad through a phone dating service.

Berlin expressed interest in seeing the girl after spotting her picture in the father's home. The dad, now serving 15 years for repeatedly molesting the girl himself, obliged.

Man Charged With Raping 5-Year-Old Daughter (NY Times, 7/29/05)
A Manhattan man raped his 5-year-old daughter and then offered her to another man he had met on a telephone chat line, who then joined him in sexually abusing the girl this month, the police said yesterday.

The police arrested the father, a 26-year-old man who lives in the East Village, last Friday and charged him with rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a minor. He was arraigned on Saturday and ordered held in $250,000 bail, the police said. His identity was not released by the authorities in order to conceal the identity of his daughter.

Yesterday, the police arrested the second man, whom they identified as Ariel Berlin, 72, a retired travel agent who lives on the Upper West Side. He was charged with sexual abuse and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

Acting on tips, the police interviewed Mr. Berlin on July 21. They said he told them that the two men had spoken over the chat line on July 14 and had set up a sexual tryst at the father's apartment on Avenue D. That encounter did not include the girl, the police said.

Days later, however, the two men spoke on the chat line again. The 26-year-old man told Mr. Berlin that he had a 5-year-old girl with him and invited Mr. Berlin over for sex with him and the girl, the police said.

At the apartment, the father greeted Mr. Berlin dressed in woman's clothing and holding the hand of the girl, who was unclothed, the police said. The men took the girl into a bedroom, where she was molested, the police said.

Sideline-Notes

Police did not say, back when the arrest was made last year, how they learned of the incident. The girl’s mother was living in Massachusetts and the child had been living in her father’s apartment for about two months when the incident occurred, according to the charges filed at the District Attorney’s office.

The girl was placed in the custody of an aunt who lives in Manhattan, police said. In the Post story published today, the aunt is quoted as telling Berlin: "Ariel Berlin, you are a sick, pathetic, disgusting old man, I hope you die - and rot in jail. And also in hell.&q
